For fifteen years, Moving Arts’ One-Act Festival has provided a stage for brand new works by both seasoned and emerging playwrights. This year's month-long festival will feature Ten World Premiere Plays and many other exciting events.

FESTIVAL KEYSTONES
These two premiere line-ups (Parables and Passions) featuring seven short plays are the foundation of this year’s festival. Included during these nights is the winner of the Moving Arts 15th Annual One-Act Competition, as well as a newly commissioned play by one of our Resident Artists.

“PARABLES”
Three darkly entertaining tales of the bizarre and creepy.

Cassie knows that bad things are going to happen today, but no one ever believes her.

“He Was Ripped Apart by Something Slimy Under the Bed” by Emily Martin

Featuring: Jeffrey Cannata, Magee Kundrat, and Faris Matthews.
A disturbing tale of neglect and the things that go bump in the night.

“Alien Hand Syndrome” by Michael Erickson

Mark suffers from a very real but very rare disease.

SPOTLIGHT EVENTS
In celebration of the fifteenth year of this festival, we have designed a variety of programming that not only honors the tradition of the One-Act Play, but which also expands on its possibilities. From a new production that will begin it's life in the festival, to a newly created performance that explores the limitless possibilities of theater, the Spotlight Productions are adventurous and innovative.

“BLOOD AND THUNDER”

New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina. The levees break, forcing an unwelcomed reunion. Trapped by the rising flood waters, two men are forced to confront their painful past. This new play by Moving Arts’ Resident Artist Terence Anthony will begin its five week run on October 23rd, as part of the festival.

Presented at Moving Arts, 1822 Hyperion Avenue, Los Angeles, 90027. Runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, starting October 23rd.

"ARACHNATOPIA: A CHOOSE YOUR OWN WEB PLAY"
 

A Special Event at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. As part of the Natural History Museum’s Art and Science Day, Moving Arts will be creating a special, site-specific performance revolving around the Museum’s Spider Pavilion. Guests of the museum will have the opportunity to choose from eight different characters and storylines and create their own theatrical experience.

NEW DATE ADDED : Saturday Nov 7th at 11am, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. This performance is free, but there is an admission fee for the museum.
Adults $9, Seniors (+62) $6.50, Students with ID $6.50, Children 13 - 17 $6.50, Children 5 - 12 $2, Children under 5 FREE.

Moving Arts’ Resident Artist, EM Lewis, was honored this past year by both the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle and the American Theater Critics Association for her play “Song of Extinction.” As part of this year’s festival, we have chosen to celebrate this amazing talent by showcasing a series of her shorter work. The night includes six short plays, including a brand new piece entitled, “The Incident Report." Join us for a post-show wine and cheese reception with the playwright.
